Douglas Scott Keith was born and raised in Rochester, Minnesota. He received his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, and his M.D. Degree from Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minnesota. He went on to do his residency in Internal Medicine and his fellowship in Nephrology at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. He then practiced General Nephrology for 9 years in Portland, Oregon before returning to do a Kidney Transplant Fellowship at Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland, Oregon. Following his Transplant Fellowship he was recruited to the faculty of McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Canada where he as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology. In 2008 he was recruited to the University of Virginia to be the Medical Director of the Kidney Transplant Program and promoted to Associate Professor of Medicine. In July of 2016 he embarked on his present position as the Medical Director of the Sacred Heart Kidney Transplant Program.
He has published numerous research articles in kidney transplantation and chronic kidney disease in peer reviewed journals during his career. He is very excited to be part of this new effort to start a kidney transplant program at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola, Florida. He enjoys sailing, woodworking, and biking in his spare time.
